WHAT IS A PILOT MEMBER?

A PILOT MEMBER IS PART OF AN INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION WITH MEMBERS WORLDWIDE PILOT INTERNATIONAL was chartered on October 18, 1921 in Macon, Georgia, U.S.A. by Elizabeth Leonard and forty local businesswomen. – District Clubs consist of individual States, Bahamas, Japan, etc. – Local Clubs consist of individual members from around the world. – COED: Clubs of Evolving Districts. ( A District unto itself, COED includes Clubs in Canada, Montana, Hawaii, and South Africa.)

The “MEMBERS” ARE THE HEART OF PILOT WHO FOCUS ON THE MISSION OF PILOT: “Developing youth, providing service and education, and uplifting families.” PILOTS SERVE UNDER THE MOTTO “True Course Ever” Pilot Principles: Friendship and Service Emblem: A riverboat pilot’s wheel with 8 spokes

COLORS: GREEN – LIFE AND VIGOR GOLD – SINCERITY AND PURPOSE CODE OF ETHICS: Within this Code are the highest standards and goals by which every member of Pilot strives to live. Written by Pearl Sparks of Florence, Alabama. First presented in 1926 at the 5 th Pilot International Convention.

WHAT DOES PILOT MEMBERSHIP MEAN? PILOT VALUES:  FRIENDSHIP AND SERVICE  SERVICE  LEADERSHIP  PERSONAL GROWTH  COMMUNITY  INTERNATIONAL DIVERSITY  ETHICAL BEHAVIOR

These tangible values are essential to the culture of Pilot International. They enable us to survive as an organization, and to draw additional members who are inspired by and committed to the work we perform in our communities. Perhaps the greatest benefit of being a Pilot member is the pride and personal satisfaction that we feel by contributing to the improvement of our communities. Being a Pilot Member gives us a sense of belonging to a group of individuals who truly care.

 Leadership Opportunities  Networking Opportunities With Pilots Worldwide  Professional Training  District & International Conventions  Informative Publications  Volunteer Resource Materials  A Successful Youth (Anchor) Program ADDITIONAL BENEFITS OF BEING A PILOT MEMBER:

A PILOT MEMBER SHOULD:  Adhere to principles set forth in The Pilot Code of Ethics  Attend meetings  Be an active participant in club’s decision-making  Be supportive of decisions made by the majority, regardless of personal preference

 Encourage decisions which affect “the greater whole.”  Be professional in all matters concerning Pilot business.  Impact club growth through sponsorship of new members.  Encourage cultural diversity in club membership.  Encourage retention of club’s members by making others feel welcome and included.

 Do your “fair share” when it comes to planning and carrying out service projects and fundraisers.  Be familiar with District and International issues and business.  Enhance the club’s image within the community by verbally promoting the club’s services.  Communicate with other civic/service organizations and local agencies.
