Welcome!  I am happy to be your ESOL teacher!  We will have a great year learning together  These policies and procedures will help you understand what to expect in my classroom

English Only Please!  To learn English, you must speak it  You will lose points from your grade each time you speak in any other language  This is not to be mean, but to help you learn English so that you are successful in life

Food and Drink  You may eat and drink in my classroom  Remember to: Clean up any mess Pick up wrappers Students who cannot clean up after themselves will not be able to eat and drink in my class

Cell phones  Turn your cell phone off  Don’t use it  If you take it out, I will take it away from you and send it to the office  I love my cell phone too, but I don’t use it in the class out of respect for you!

I Pods, Mp3, and CD Players  Do not use them in class  If you do, I will take it up from you, and take it to the office  I love my Mp3 player too. I can’t teach if I have my headphones on, and you can’t learn if you have yours on

Bathroom Break  Go to the bathroom between classes  You will get 5 bathroom tickets for the nine weeks for emergencies only  Tickets that you do not use will be added to your final nine week grade. For example: 3 tickets will become 3 extra points to your final grade; A 69 will become a 72.

Grading Policy  Notebooks are worth 35% of your final grade  Spoken English is worth 15%  Journals are worth 15%  Tests are worth 20%  The Final Exam is worth 15%

The Notebook  Three ring binder, 1 inch or larger  Keep all class work in the notebook  Write the assignment and date on your assignment sheet  I will grade these about every two weeks

Make-up Work  You have three days to make-up work when you have been absent (EXCUSED Absences)  Check the “Master Notebook” for assignments you have missed  You will be given a “Make-up Buddy.” This person will help you with make-up work
