ACHIEVING an EFFECT Books: “Modern Radio Production” by Hausman, Benoit, Messere, & O’Donnell: Chapter 10 Pertemuan 9 Matakuliah: O Dasar-Dasar Produksi Siaran Radio Tahun: 2010

Bina Nusantara University 3 WHAT IS an EFFECT? Overall mood impact and appeal of a radio production. An understanding of creating an effect would be necessary to produce the subtle message the nuances, responsible for the impact and drama of the message. Every production elements must support the theme, or it will detract from the message.

Bina Nusantara University 4 HOW PRODUCTION ELEMENTS SUPPORT A THEME CREATING EXCITEMENT –Its important to make their product appeal to a market that seek thrills, activity, and youthful enjoyment of life. –This element is deeply influence by the choice of music. CREATING IMMEDIATE IDENTIFICATION –An important point: whatever production element is chosen for the task of creating immediate identification, it must support the overall message.

Bina Nusantara University 5 HOW PRODUCTION ELEMENTS SUPPORT A THEME EVOKING an EMOTION –Producer have to be able to evoke the emotion of the audience SUMMARY of EFFECTS –The goal of achieving an effect is to be able to reach a certain group with a message

Bina Nusantara University 6 HOW a PRODUCER USES PRODUCTION ELEMENTS MUSIC –The source from which you will draw music include: Your station general airplay music library A needle drop – a cut from a CD that is dubbed for use in a production Music beds supply by a national advertiser for use by local affiliated merchants or businesses Original music compose specially for a certain purpose, such as jingle music. –The use of music: To create a mood and reinforces a theme To fits into the format of your station

Bina Nusantara University 7 HOW a PRODUCER USES PRODUCTION ELEMENTS SFX –The source Special SFx libraries; CDs the radio station purchase and buys the rights to use. SFx recorded by the producer –The use To save time and words To inject drama

Bina Nusantara University 8 HOW a PRODUCER USES PRODUCTION ELEMENTS COLORATION of SOUND –Compress: It involves boosting the volume or soften sound so that entire presentation is intense. –Mild echo: Often electronically apply by favor high quality microphones that reproduce a wide spectrum of sounds, including breath and mouth noises of the announcer, making the voice seems very close up and intimate. –Distortion: The way sound patterns are reproduced a fact the way we perceived those patterns.

Bina Nusantara University 9 HOW a PRODUCER USES PRODUCTION ELEMENTS COPYRIGHTING –Three general principals of copyrighting: 1.Remember that your writing for the ear, not the eye. 2.Remember that your writing must be read; it takes practice to write in a rhythm that can be read easily by someone else. Be particularly careful about your use of comas, and dashes (incorrect usage can make the copy virtually unreadable). 3.Pay close attention to technical format. TIME AND PACE –The way we speak (with the right timing and pace) will create the right show precisely. –We can achieve it trough lots of practice.

Bina Nusantara University 10 HOW a PRODUCER USES PRODUCTION ELEMENTS VOICE QUALITY –Matching the proper voice and delivery to the message at hand is the important element –Another aspect of voice quality is the lack of distraction. One of the most common distraction is in proper breathing by the announcer. The cure for this is to maintain generous breath support instead of trying to talk until all breath is expended –Plan where to take breaths; breathe at natural pauses in the copy. Don’t just read until you can’t read anymore.

Bina Nusantara University 11 HOW a PRODUCER USES PRODUCTION ELEMENTS SOUND of WORDS –Words can evoke moods. Notes how do words dine and eats create different moods; like wise with invest and buy –The physical sound of the words also has an effect. –Businesses is not a great word for the ear, because the three S’s sounds make the word hissy and unattractive. Firms sounds better

Bina Nusantara University 12 USING ELEMENTS of SOUNDS to ACHIEVE an EFFECT RECORDING a VOICE –The most important program that you must master to record a voice is the ability to operate a computer, mic, or tape. RECORDING MUSIC –In particular, the music reinforces the message, you create a perfectly time spot that includes the beginning, and end you want. The result is a package that puts the point across, with all the production element enhancing the messages.
