English 10 Honors day 7 Objective: To evaluate characters and relationships in chapters 5-7

Chapters 5-7 Quiz  Take quiz.  Grade quiz.  Questions?  What events did you find most shocking, interesting, or impactful in these chapters?

Quickwrite  Take out a full sheet of paper.  Write an answer the following prompt. Your answer can be fairly informal, as long as you are fully answering the questions.  Does Okonkwo’s family function well? If so, in what ways? If not, why?  What relationships do find interesting or important? Why?

 Create a chart on your paper like the one below. Create at least 4 rows, each for a different character.  Pick 4 characters that interact with Okonkwo to include in your chart and then fill in the necessary information about their relationship. Character’s Name Brief description of individual Relationship with Okonkwo and others What relationship reveals or highlights about Okonkwo or society

 Looking at your chart, make an evaluation about how these relationships operate in the novel. Why are they included? Who or what do they help us understand?  Discuss these ideas briefly with a partner.  Now, formalize your ideas in a quickwrite:  How do Okonkwo’s relationships make him a sympathetic or unsympathetic character? Explain your ideas fully.
