CATEGORY #8 Kitchen- New or remodeled space. Remodeled spaces require before and after photos.

Design Statement Category #8 The heart of the home should beat in harmony with a higher design aesthetic. The goal was to create a highly functional kitchen with a sophisticated modernistic approach to renovate this dated mountain home. Clean lined cabinetry with integrated hardware was executed in both simple grained Wenge and beautifully ribboned grey Zebrano. The cabinetry composition in the space used the principle of architectural massing, contrast of materials, and visual balance to sculpt the space. The hood’s unique asymmetrical design incorporates the vent into linear shelves anchored by a strong vertical line of steel. Lighting was built in to both highlight the beautiful woods as well as illuminate work surfaces. Simple charcoal tone Caesarstone was used in waterfall countertops along with Limestone clad walls for textural interest. Function was considered to ensure ease of several cooks and guest traffic flow by planning various zones: cooking, clean up, storage, baking center, and entertaining.

To update this kitchen to a modern mountain aesthetic different materials and textures used in cube like masses. The linear horizontal movement is repeated in the integrated stainless steel hardware, the wenge wood shelves at the hood, and the steel partition pattern.

The cube of Wenge wood on the left hand side which projects from the Zebrano cabinetry disguises the dumb waiter and refrigeration units.

The architectural hot rolled steel partition plays duel purposes by adding visual balance and interest to the left side of the kitchen composition and hides the powder room door.

The cook top incorporates both gas and induction for the gourmet cooking. The horizontal rhythm of wenge is anchored by the vertical steel blades.

The integrated hardware is incorporated in the simple architectural mass of Zebrano cabinetry that balances the left side of the room. Seamlessly designed within this space is a fully functional wet bar, coffee station, and storage.

The lines of the Caesarstone gray countertops are repeated in the hand waxed steel bar top. The negative space is highlighted with the use of stand offs.

The floor plan shows the organizational zones of the kitchen: storage and refrigeration to the left, cooking in the rear, baking in the center and clean up to the right. In the front center is the wet bar as the entertaining area.
