It was a normal, cold day. The Reignier Catholic School Year Sixes were about to head off for a amazing breathtaking camp. We had to climb enormous mountains and crawl through caves that were really muddy and slippery and cook nachos on campfires. What a challenging week!

On Monday it was a normal day, upset we were heading to Camp Kaitawa. I was in Mark Tillard’s car. It was me Angus, Katie and Kate. We stopped in Wairoa and had lunch at St Josephs then we got back in the cars and keet going. Later on we had made it to Camp Kaitawa then the Year Sixes had to choose a bunk bed to sleep on. Adam’s Mum Nic led us in the walks then we walked to lake Kaitawa, the power station, green lake and the surge chamber. And we had to do it in the rain. Then we walked up the pipelines the pipes were so long to walk up. When we got back to camp we played games in our bunkrooms. We were about to have dinner but before we had dinner the teachers made five groups the groups names were Kiwis, Whio, Kaka, Kakapo, and Kereru. I was in the Kiwis group then we had spaghetti bolognaise for dinner then a lady called Aniwa did a DOC talk. She brought a stoat and a ferret but they weren’t real and she brought a trap and a fake Kiwi and a fake Kiwi egg. Then we had supper then went to bed.

On Tuesday Reignier Catholic School Year Sixes did the Ngamoko walk. But before we started to drive to Ngamoko we had breakfast. For breakfast we had weetbix, cornflakes, peaches and fruit salad then we had some hot food for breakfast as well. We had hash browns and sausages and more then we went to the walk. It was about a 15km walk. It was supposed to take around five hours but it took my group six hours and a half.

We started walking for about 35 minutes. We stopped and had 1 thing to eat then about 20 minutes later we had a mini size Moro bar. Then we kept on walking, then about 40 minutes later we had a barley sugar then when we were so close to the top we had lunch. We got up to 1050 metres above sea level then when we got to the top. We walked back to camp. It was a very tiring walk. When we got back to camp everyone was so sore and tired. Then we played games in our bunkrooms. Then we had a shower, we had devilled sausages for dinner and pudding. Then we watched a movie. The movie was ice age 3 dawn of the dinosaurs. I didn’t watch it because I had seen it heaps and I didn’t like the movie. Then we got in our pyjamas and went to bed. This tree is called the Rata Tree

On Wednesday for breakfast we had Weetbix and cornflakes with peaches and fruit salad and hot food was egg in toast and sausages. We walked to the Redoubt. We saw Michael Noonan's grave and another mans grave and a 9 month old babies grave. We also saw the old Kaitawa jail. They built the jail there so they could watch the prisoners and attack the enemies at the same time. Then we walked back to the start of the walk then we had lunch in a hut. Then we drove to Onepoto caves. The caves were really muddy and slippery and they were pretty dark. We went through about 5 to 7 caves. Back at camp we had a quiz then we had dinner it was burgers. Connor had 2 and a half burgers and 2 or 3 patties. Then we had 2 minute showers. If we were too long we got hosed. Then we brushed our teeth then we went back into the dining hall and done some quizzes. Then Miss Hewett told us a myth of Lake Waikaremoana. Then we went to bed.

We had breakfast it was weetbix cornflakes with peaches and fruit salad then we packed our daypacks and we did chores. We walked to Lake Waikareiti and on the way we did a Geography Quiz and Famous Name Game. Then we visited Papakorito falls. We went through the Loop track then when we got back to camp we played games in our bunkrooms. Mr Crawford took us to the Obstacle course and did team races. The Kiwis won then we practiced our talent show then we had a contest which team could make the best flying machines. The Kiwis also won that, then we started making the cookout. After we ate dinner. Our dinner was Nachos that were so hot and delicious. Then we had some Marshmallows, then we had Choc pudding and ice cream for extra dessert. Then we did the talent show. Whio won the talent show then we went to bed.

We had breakfast it was weetbix cornflakes with peaches and fruit salad. Dishes group got Choc pudding with their breakfast then we packed our bags and cleared the room and cleaned it. Then we played games in the court like Cricket. Then we got in the car and drove to Wairoa. Then we had chip butties for Lunch. We had a play on the playground then we got back in the cars and went to Tutira for ice creams. Then we got in the car and headed back to Reignier. On the way there we were doing wordcrosses and playing a game called 20 questions. Then we had finally got back to school. Our parents were there waiting to pick us up and take us home. It was a really extraodinary camp.
