A BIOTIC AND B IOTIC F ACTORS IN AN E COSYSTEM

C HARACTERISTICS OF L IVING T HINGS (B IOTIC ) 1. Living things are composed of cells 2. Living things have different levels of organization Cells > Tissue > Organ > Organ System > Organism 3. Living things use energy (ATP) 4. Living Things Respond to their environment 5. Living things grow 6. Living things reproduce 7. Living things adapt to their environment 8. Living things contain genetic material (DNA)

B IOTIC Any organism is biotic (plants, animals, cells, people, etc) A biotic organism is also something that once lived (dead flower, dead tree, dead person)

A BIOTIC F ACTORS Non-living parts of an ecosystem (light pole, car, etc)

E COSYSTEM An environment of any sort An area in which there are both living and non-living things. For example: forest, ocean, lake, city, cave Glenn High School is an ecosystem

A SSIGNMENT : C OMPLETED ON YOUR OWN PAPER In your notebook, compile a list of 10 abiotic factors and 10 biotic factors that exist in Glenn High School Also, compile a list of 5 abiotic factors and 5 biotic factors that exist in YOUR neighborhood. Abiotic or Biotic? 1. Rock 2. Virus 3. Bacteria 4. Michael Jackson 5. Hydrogen Atom
