Day 4: Modifying Page Layout and Printing your Documents
Presentation transcript:

MICRO SOFT WORD

The advantages of using a word processing program The typewriter did fair job of getting readable characters into paper. But once those character appeared on the paper, it was hard to get them off. Since you did not get a chance to see your words until they were on paper, therefore, by the time you realized you had made a mistake, it was too late. You had to erase the mistake or start the document over. This problem was solved when computer word processing programs give you a chance to review the pages of your document before they were printed out. Word processing refers to the use of a computer program to prepare and print documents. Through this software, a user enters the text with the help of input devices, views it on the monitor, changes it as necessary, saves the document on disk, and gets a hard copy of it from the printer. Other useful functions of word processing software are setting of margins, line spacing, automatically wrapping the text around the margins inserting, deleting, and searching the document for a particular sequence of characters, underline, boldface or italicized material. An important operation with word processing software is the ability to electricity “cut” or “copy” a document and “paste” it any number of times, somewhere else either in the same or some other document.

The advantage of MS Windows environment. Some advantages of using MS-Windows include these factors: ● The ability to run more than one application at a time. ● The ability to copy and move information among application. ● The ability to link or embed objects from one application into another. ● The ability to display on the screen what you will get from the printer.

Different levels of formatting a documents CHARACTER FORMATTING Selection of typeface, font sizes and styles for text is called character formatting. The most common way to emphasize text is to apply bold face, italic or underline character-formatting style.   PARAGRAPH FORMATTING A paragraph varies in length from a single line to a full page, and may formatted independently from the rest of the document. Paragraph formatting includes text alignments: line spacing, indentations, tab settings and borders. SECTION FORMATTING Section formatting specifies page number, headers and footers for different sections or chapters of a document. DOCUMENT FORMATING Document formatting specifies the overall page layout for printing. It includes choosing the paper size page orientation margins.

Different paragraph alignment options Aligning text to the left, right, or at the center of the page affects the outlook of your document. The way how the text is aligned with the margins of a document is called justification. MS Word provides four different types of justification or alignment. Left Justification Aligns text as the left margin. Center Justification Centers the line or paragraph between the margins. Right Justification Aligns text at the right margin. Full Justification Spreads the text entry between the left and right margins by automatically.
