Homework Homework will be given regularly in reading, math, and word study. Writing, science, and social studies homework will be assignment less frequently. Homework is posted every afternoon. Students are responsible for copying assignments into their planners. Assignments and notices are put into the student mailboxes. Students are instructed to make sure they have everything before they leave. Please see my webpage for updated homework assignments, projects, and test dates. Check the Travel Folder daily for study guides, notices, etc..

Homework Policy Please ensure that your child completes the homework! Each student starts every marking period with 100 points per subject. For each missed assignment, the student will lose five points in that subject. The total missed points are subtracted from 100 and then used as a grade for each subject. As a reward, each student has the opportunity to earn computer time. Each student must get ten punches on their superhero punch card in order to earn ten minutes of computer time. One night of complete homework equals one card punch.

Curriculum Language Arts Literacy We follow the workshop model for reading and writing. This includes… Read- aloud Mini-lesson Independent work Conferencing Sharing Word Study is done in lieu of spelling. There are three different word study lists based on the inventory test given in September.

Curriculum-continued Math: Go Math! Curriculum and memorizing the multiplication facts Think Central Online: username-firstlast password-gw123 Science: textbook, labs, & projects Social Studies: Time for Kids, geography, & projects Technology is integrated in all subject areas. They students will type, create projects, and perform research using the computer.

Assessments The students will be assessed in all subjects.  Math: Tests will be given every 2-3 weeks. A review sheet will be assigned as homework the night before the test.  Multiplication Facts: Study the facts  Word Study: bi-weekly on Fridays  Reading and Writing: Their notebooks and assignments will be graded using a rubric. Students will also be assessed on skills, but do not need to study for this. The test is based on their application of the skills covered.

Assessment-continued  Science and Social Studies: The students will be tested on each unit. Usually, each unit takes 4-5 weeks. Students will also be assessed on projects. Rubrics will be used to grade those assignments.  Assessments Folders: These folders will be sent home every 2-3 weeks. Please sign the sheet and make comments if necessary. Please keep all tests in the folder until the conclusion of the marking period.
