CREATED BY: BRAYDEN ROOS DO’S AND DON’TS OF WEB DESIGN

 DO: HAVE A PLAIN BACKGROUND (IT MAKES THE SITE LOOK MORE PROFESSIONAL)  DON’T: HAVE A CRAZY COLORFUL BACKGROUND (IT MAKES THE WEBSITE LOOK BAD) THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A BACKGROUND NOT TO USE. IT IS WAY TO BUSY AND HAS TOO MUCH GOING ON. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A BACKGROUND TO USE. IT IS SIMPLE AND WILL NOT DISTRACT THE READER.

ABCDEFG – THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A FONT NOT TO USE. IT IS VERY GLITZY AND EXTREMELY BUSY.  DO: HAVE A FONT THAT YOU CAN READ, AND A FONT SIZE THAT IS EASY TO SEE  DON’T: USE A FANCY FONT WITH CRAZY COLORS THAT IS HARD TO SEE AND READ ABCDEFG - THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A FONT TO USE. IT IS VERY SIMPLE AND EASY TO READ. THIS WEBSITE USED TOO MANY DIFFERENT FONTS; SOME ARE HARD TO READ THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A GOOD FONT TO USE ON A WEBSITE. IT’S EASY TO READ AND VERY SIMPLE

 DO: KEEP YOUR PARAGRAPHS SHORT AND SIMPLE, LEAVING THE CHALLENGING WORDS OUT  DON’T: WRITE PARAGRAPHS THAT ARE 1000 WORDS LONG (READERS WILL GET BORED VERY EASILY AND STOP READING YOUR SITE) THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A WEBSITE WITH SHORT PARAGRAPHS, THAT GET TO THE POINT RIGHT AWAY. THIS WEBSITE IS ALSO EASY TO READ, AND DOES NOT HAVE CHALLENGING WORDS. DO NOT HAVE ANY PARAGRAPHS THIS LONG ON YOUR PAGE. PEOPLE WILL GET BORED REALLY EASILY AND PROBABLY NOT WANT TO READ YOUR WEBSITE

 DO: MAKE YOUR PAGE VISUALLY APPEALING TO THE EYE  DON’T: USE MANY FONT SIZES; KEEP IT SIMPLE THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A WEBSITE THAT IS NOT APPEALING TO THEY EYE. IT HAS TOO MANY PICTURES, AND IS NOT APPEALING TO THE EYE THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A WEBSITE THAT IS SIMPLE AND HAS THE SAME FONT THROUGHOUT THE PAGE

 DO: HAVE YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE, INCASE ANYONE EVER WANTS TO CONTACT YOU ABOUT HOW GOOD YOUR WEBSITE IS, OR MAYBE HAVE SOME SUGGESTIONS ON WAYS YOU COULD IMPROVE.  DON’T: TELL PEOPLE TO CONTACT YOU, AND THEN HAVE NO CONTACT INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO READERS. INCLUDE SOMETHING LIKE THIS, SO PEOPLE CAN ALWAYS CONTACT YOU NEVER HAVE THIS!!

 DO: USE TOPIC RELATED PHOTOS  DON’T: USE PICTURES THAT DON’T HAVE ANY MEANING TO YOUR WEBSITE THIS HAS NO MEANING TO THE WEBSITE THIS HAS A MEANING TO THE WEBSITE; BECAUSE THE THEME IS NATURE

 DO: KEEP YOUR HOME PAGE SIMPLE AND DON’T HAVE A LOT OF WORDS, BUT INCLUDE PICTURES  DON’T: PUT A LOT OF WORDS ON YOUR HOME PAGE. THE READER MAY GET BORED EASILY AND MAY NOT WANT TO VISIT YOUR WEBSITE. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A HOMEPAGE THAT HAS TOO MUCH GOING ON. THERE ARE TOO MUCH LINKS TO VISIT STUFF, AND HAS NO GENERAL INFORMATION GIVEN BY THE CREATOR. THE BACKGROUND IS TOO DISTRACTING AND HAS ADS. THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A HOMEPAGE THAT IS SIMPLE AND GETS STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. IT DOESN’T HAVE LONG PARAGRAPHS TO VISIT ANYTHING, AND DOESN’T HAVE ANY ADS.

 DO: KEEP YOUR PAGE STRUCTURED  DON’T: PLACE RANDOM THINGS EVERYWHERE ON THE PAGE THIS WEBSITE ( IS A STRUCTURED WEBSITE AND IS ORGANIZED REALLY WELLWWW.WHIPCAR.COM THIS WEBSITE IS VERY UNORGANIZED. THE CREATOR PUT RANDOM THINGS EVERYWHERE, AND IS EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND WHAT YOUR LOOKING FOR.

 DO: FOCUS ON WHATS IMPORTANT  DON’T: RANDOMLY TALK ABOUT NONESENSE THAT DOESN’T HAVE ANY MEANING TO YOUR TOPIC THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF A WELL FOCUSED WEBSITE. IT’S FOCUSED ON ONE TOPIC (THE HAPPINESS PROJECT, AND THINGS THEIR DOING TO HELP) THIS WEBSITE ABOUT DOGS IS POINTLESS BECAUSE YOU CANT DO ANYTHING, EXEPT LOOK AT A MOTION PICTURE OF DOGS RUNNING.

 DO: CHOOSE THE RIGHT COLORS FOR YOUR WEBSITE (PICK COLORS THAT GO NICE TOGETHER)  DON’T: CHOOSE COLORS THAT LOOK UGLY TOGETHER (ALSO DON’T USE THOUSANDS OF COLORS TO DETAIL YOUR PAGE) THESE COLORS GO GOOD TOGETHER THIS WEBSITE DOES NOT HAVE ANY GOOD COLORS TO IT. THE RANDOM RAINBOW OF COLORS MAKES READING THE WEBSITE DISTRACTING

 DO: SET UP NAVIGATION PROPERLY (MAKE IT EASY FOR YOUR READERS OT FIND THINGS THEIR LOOKING FOR)  DON’T: MAKE YOUR READERS SEARCH TO FIND SOMETHING DO NOT HAVE SEARCH ICONS ON YOUR WEBSITE. KEEPP YOUR WEBSITE ORGANIZED AND HAVE EVERYTHING ON ONE PAGE NO SEARCH WEBSITE! EVERYTHING IS DISPLAYED ON ONE PAGE
