Arwel Jones Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales A National Collection: A view from the National Library of Wales

The National Library of Wales is not, in any way, part of the University of Wales. I am here to speak on behalf of the National Library of Wales, not the University of Wales or any of its constituent colleges. The National Library of Wales does house the University of Waless thesis collection Arwel Jones Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales

Implications … Just as great in Wales as elsewhere in Britain... An additional strata in the hirarchy of the JISC/FAIR model? Masters Theses as well as Doctorates … Arwel Jones Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales

Developments at NLW Dedicated to a very ambitious programme of digitisation and digital preservation. Dedicated to preserving the integrity of the National Theses Collection.

Arwel Jones Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales A Digital Future: The National Library of Wales believes that it is its responsibility to acquire, describe, store, and provide access to Welsh digital material, including works within the compass of legal deposit.

Arwel Jones Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales Q: An electronic future for University of Wales Theses? A: That really is up to the individual colleges of the University of Wales!

Moving forward … Establishment of a Working Group at UW Aberystwyth. Involvement of NLW Reports to wider constituency in Wales.

Arwel Jones Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales Moving forward together … A digital continuation of the present agreement between UofW and NLW? How would that plug into the JISC / FAIR model? Are there other models which would allow co-operation on all levels?

What do we need? Flexibility! Arwel Jones Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru National Library of Wales

Flexibility! Flexibility to accommodate different local, regional and national arrangements. Flexibility to accommodate theses of all kinds. Flexibility to accommodate a period of hybrid submissions. Flexibility that will allow un to plan today for tomorrows technology …

More than anything else we need … theses!
