Curriculum Analysis Exploring the Development of Curriculum

Analysis: Bloom’s Taxonomy

Begin with the End in Mind Create classroom experiences that are animated by the belief that when students and teachers are engaged in work that is challenging, adventurous, and meaningful, learning and achievement will flourish. Create classrooms where teachers can fulfill their highest aspirations, and where students can achieve more than they think possible.

Perspective-Taking: What do you believe? Who do you want to be known as? How do you wish to see the world? CCSS and the national call for higher student achievement… An opportunity to reenvision teaching, learning, and assessment around a new definition of student achievement: one that marries mastery of rigorous content to equally important outcomes such as critical thinking, effective communication, collaboration, and the ability to reflect on one’s learning, agency, and character. Richer, deeper, more fulfilling experiences in school.

All Aboard! Choose to Be a Moving Train: an individual or organization who is highly motivated to lead, inspire, and elevate our profession by doing good work: work that is good in quality, good for the soul, and good for the world.

Investigate! In grade level teams, explore the Colorado District Curriculum Project and work that over one thousand Colorado teachers completed. What do you notice? Old School21 st Century School

Optimal Learning Model Read, Write, Lead by Regie Routman

Optimal Learning Model (OLM) Foundation of teaching grounded in a research-based, “gradual release of responsibility” instructional model. Celebrating and building on the learner’s strengths as opposed to first highlighting deficits. Teaching and learning becomes more engaging, efficient, enjoyable, and successful.

Think Aloud…Zoom OUT, Zoom IN Standards What Habits of Mind, 21 st Century Skills do I want to cultivate? Assessment/Products and Evidence: How will students demonstrate mastery? –LINK: “Performance Assessment” Trajectory of the Unit, “Storyboard” Detailed Lesson Plans KnowDoVocabulary

Design Opportunities for Students to Develop “An Ethic of Excellence” I believe that the work of excellence is transformational. Once a student sees that he or she is capable of excellence, that student is never quite the same. There is a new self-image, a new notion of possibility. There is an appetite for excellence. After students have had a taste of excellence, they’re never quite satisfied with less; they’re always hungry.

This I Believe…A Start Learning should be a joy-filled, personally meaningful experience. My students need a high degree of support mastering content and aligning learning opportunities with their passions, strengths, and interests. Teaching BEYOND the content of my course brings me incredible joy! Feedback should always inspire the learner to continue learning.

Designers’ Challenge! It’s your turn to give it a go!
