What do good writers do? Learning to be a good writer is not easy. It is something that you will be learning your whole life. Don’t be afraid to take risks in your writing.

Brainstorms are organizes their ideas Write down your ideas. Key words only. Use different planners.

Starts with a topic sentence. A topic sentence tells the reader what your writing is all about. I love my new bicycle. I had a great time in Florida. My pet dog is very hard to take care of.

Uses proper grammar rules. Indent every paragraph. Uses CUPS. Remember all the grammar rules. I had a great time in Florida. We went to Crystal River and swam with the manatees. We had to put on wet suites and face masks.

Uses a variety of words (Word choice) Big-huge/massive/enormous Nice-kind/warm/thoughtful Sequence words- first/second/after/before/meanwhile Adjective-The cat ran up the tree to get away from the dog. The gray, fluffy cat dashed up the tall tree to escape the hungry, drooling dog.

Asks a friend “what do you think about what I wrote?” Share your writing with a friend or family member. Ask their advice on how you can make it better. Don’t be afraid on constructive criticism.

Uses the Writing Process Prewriting (Brainstorming) Drafting Revising (Editing) Proofreading Publishing

Reads, Reads, Reads Read many different books and authors. Think about how they write how their writing sounds. Reading something may make you want to write about it.

Writes different types of writing. Narrative Writing Expository Writing Descriptive Writing. Persuasive Writing. Poetry Writing.

Writes their thoughts down almost every day and writes about the world around them. Keep a journal at home or at school. Write whatever you want in it. Like riding a bike, writing takes practice. Write about your experiences.

Never says “I’m finished.” You can always make your writing better. Leave it alone for a while. Come back to it later.
