Textbooks: Elements of Literature textbooks are to be taken home and used there. Class sets will be used at school. Elements of Language books will be used as class sets only.

Essays: Personal narratives Literary analysis essays Persuasive essays Argumentative essays A short (2-3 pages) research essay with MLA documentation Essay test response questions In-class essays

Vocabulary : Intensive vocabulary development and enrichment activities will be used to prepare for ACT and SAT tests

Communication Skills: In-class discussions Small group work Individual and group presentations

College Now and/or AP Credit: College Now provides college credit for Composition I (English 121) through JCCC See jccc.edu/collegenow for complete enrollment information To receive AP (Advanced Placement) credit, students must successfully pass a three hour exam administered in May Approximately 98% of my students enroll in the College Now program

The Successful English 11-Honors Student: Exhibits a willingness to learn and explore new topics Keeps materials organized and accessible Attends class consistently Interacts respectfully and patiently with others Does his/her work without plagiarizing Completes assignments outside of class, on time

The Successful English 11-Honors Student, continued: Reads assigned work carefully Takes thorough notes both in and out of class Reads and follows directions Budgets time wisely to complete long-term assignments Prepares for tests by reviewing, rereading, and discussing material Displays proper grammar and proofreading skills on all assignments

Basic Class Rules: Be in your assigned seat, ready to work, with all necessary materials, before the bell rings. See Mrs. Koenigsdorf BEFORE school following an absence. Take missed tests AFTER school Follow the class assignment calendar. If necessary, Mrs. Koenigsdorf at for instructions Follow district make-up policy for absences Avoid absences on test days or days when major assignments are due

Grading: Grades are based on total points accumulated Progress Reports are ed to parents regularly If absent for school-related events, turn in assignments BEFORE the absence as per district policy

Plagiarism: Do NOT use SparkNotes, Cliff’s Notes, or any other summarizations of literature as substitutions for actually reading the material Use turnitin.com to avoid point loss If plagiarism is determined, no points will be received on the assignment
