Objectives Update a Setting Make an Assignment in Canvas Export an Assignment to OneNote Import back to Canvas Grade an Assignment in Canvas

Settings within a Course Select the Course you want to work on from the “Course” menu on the top toolbar Select “Settings” from the left toolbar Select “Navigation” from the new tabs at the top

Settings within a Course Choose what students see by dragging and dropping items from the top list to the list at the bottom Make sure to select “Save”

Making an Assignment in Canvas Select “Assignment” from the left toolbar Select “+Assignment” from the top right corner

Making an Assignment in Canvas Rich Content Editor will appear Enter a title Enter text (possibly instructions) Insert a file, image or video or link to a page

Making an Assignment in Canvas Upload a PDF Click “Choose File” Click “Upload”

Making an Assignment in Canvas Scroll down the screen for more options Enter a point value for the assignment Pick an Assignment Group if you have weighted grades (same as PowerSchool) Select the SIS box so you can export to PS

Choose a Submission Type –No Submission is when you do not want students to submit an assignment in Canvas – used to create extra columns in the Gradebook –Online is when you want students to submit their assignments using Canvas –On Paper is when you want students to submit an assignment to you but not through Canvas – still create a column in the Gradebook –External Tool is when you want students to submit their assignments using an external app (LTI) enabled for your course – requires a URL –Note: No Submission and On Paper assignments still appear to students on their Assignments page – use the RCE to give students instructions about this Making an Assignment in Canvas

Online Submission Options –Text Entry: Students type their answers directly into the Rich Content Editor provided –Website URLs: Students copy/paste a link to a website –Media Recordings: Students upload an audio or video recording that fulfills the assignment or create it right there in Canvas –File Uploads: Students can upload a file (you can restrict the type of file) –Note: In SpeedGrader, please be aware that only the File Upload option can convert submissions for Crocodoc annotations (only.doc/.docx, ppt/.pptx, and.pdf files are currently supported)

Making an Assignment in Canvas Decide who to “Assign to” (choices of courses and even individual students) Select dates – “until” needs to be later to include all due dates Add additional “Assign to” choices Save & Publish

Let’s Work Together Enter your partner’s school address Select “Student” from the dropdown menu Select the course you’re working on from the next dropdown menu Select “Next” A new window opens – select “Add Users” and then select “Done”

Let’s Work Together Select “Home” on the left toolbar If you haven’t already, select “Publish” in the top right corner (it turns green when you’ve published your course) Go to your Retrieve the from Instructure Canvas Select “Get Started”

Let’s Work Together This “Welcome Aboard” screen appears – Select “Yes” to tell it that you’re associated with your account Your partner’s course should appear – “Registration Confirmed” is the message across the top of your screen Select the assignment from your “To Do” list on the right side of the screen

Let’s Work Together Open the PDF inside your partner’s assignment (you may have to scroll back up the page to see it) When this window appears – select “Leave this page” Select “Open” when it appears at the bottom of your screen Your PDF will open in a separate browser window

Let’s Work Together Select the three dots in the top right corner of your browser Choose “Print” from the menu When this menu appears – select “Send to OneNote 2013” Then choose “Print”

Let’s Work Together OneNote will open – this window will appear Right now just choose “Quick Notes” and then “OK”
