(House of figs); A village on the east slop of the Mt of Olives - 1 ¾ miles from Jerusalem  Came & Left Jericho – 10:46  Sent disciples into Jerusalem to find colt – 11:1-7  Triumphal Entry Into Jerusalem – 11:8-10  Viewed The Temple, Then Went To Bethany – 11:11  The Tree With Nothing But Leaves – 11:12-14  Jesus Cleanses The Temple – 11:15-18  Jesus Emphasizes The Need For Practical Faith – 11:20-26

Mark 11:12-14 (NKJV) 12 Now the next day, when they had come out from Bethany, He was hungry. 13 And seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves, He went to see if perhaps He would find something on it. When He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 In response Jesus said to it, "Let no one eat fruit from you ever again." And His disciples heard it.

 What Jesus Sought & Seeks -  What Jesus Found & Finds –  What Jesus Did & Will Do -

 Fruit from the fig tree – ( He had the right to expect some for it displayed leaves )  Fruit from Israel  Israel was God’s chosen people – Deut 7:6  God wanted to save them – Mat 23:37  Fruit from us!

Jesus Has The Right To Expect Fruit In Us  We are God’s holy & special people – Titus 2:14  We have heard & accepted the gospel – Col. 1:5,10  We are in Christ – Jn 15:1-10  We should bear the fruit of the Spirit – Gal 5:22,23  We should be growing spiritually – 2 Pet 1:5-10

 On the fig tree – “Nothing But Leaves” – It professed to have fruit – but it had none. (Mark 11:13,14)  In Israel – Blind guides, (Mat 23:24); Hypocrites, (Mat 23:27,28); Those who caused others to blaspheme, (Rom 2:17-24)  In The Church?

What Does Jesus Find In His People Today?  People who worship in Spirit & Truth? – John 4:24  People who speak where the Bible speaks? – 1 Pet 4:11  People who diligently seeks for truth? – Acts 17:11,12; 2 Tim 2:15;2 Cor 13:5  People who are bearing fruit for the Lord? – Mat 13:23

What Does Jesus Find In His People Today?  Are there those HERE who have NOTHING BUT LEAVES?  Unauthorized practices? -  Just going through the motions? –Insincere? –  Hypocritical? –  Apathetic? -  Not growing, i.e. NOT bearing fruit?

 With the fig tree – Cursing – “Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.” (11:14)  With Israel – Warned them, (1 Kings 9:6-9; Mat 3:10), Cursed them(Mat 23:29-36); Destroyed them, (Mat 24; Luke 19:43,44); (Josephus, 70 AD)  With The Church?

 Those who bear thorns & briars will be burned – (Heb 6:8; 2 Thes 1:7-9)  Those with no fruit will be “cut off” – (John 15:1-6)  Those who are unprofitable will be cast away - into “outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” – (Mat 25:30) Revelation 3:15-16 (NKJV) 15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.

 Those who are rich in good works - (Rom 2:7)  Good and faithful servants... – (Mat 25:23, 34)  The steadfast & unmovable – (1 Cor. 15:58)  Those who sow to the Spirit – (Gal 6:7-9) Revelation 14:13 (NKJV) 13 Then I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, "Write: 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.' " "Yes," says the Spirit, "that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.“
