Customization of Learning Activity The following are our group’s three examples of content adapted to a range of learning activity frameworks.

Content Area 1: West Nile Virus Learning Activity Template 1: Webquest General research Use three search strategies to describe the economic impact of west nile virus on tourism in Alberta. Describe your search strategies, what worked best, what didn’t work?

Content Area 1: West Nile Virus Learning Activity Template 2: Problem Solving West Nile Virus is coming and you have to take precautions. Describe the precautions you would recommend based on the following viewpoints: environmentalist, medical doctor, politician, private citizen, chemical company employee

Content Area 1: West Nile Virus Learning Activity Template 3: Cognitive Apprenticeship Website development to disseminate the information to others. Bring together information about spread, economics, precautions, cures, symptoms, environmental impact Structure and relate the information between areas

Customization of Content The following are our group’s three examples of learning activity frameworks adapted using new content.

Content Area 2: Parts of Speech Learning Activity Template 1:Webquest Gather resources and online reference texts to support writing. Write a few sentences with all of the parts from the x site. Find an online thesaurus and rewrite the paragraph changing the adjectives. Find an online dictionary to Define three nouns.... Etymology.

Content Area 2: Parts of Speech Learning Activity Template 2: Problem-solving Edit a document—identify problems and correct them.

Content Area 2: Parts of Speech Learning Activity Template 3: Cognitive Apprenticeship Take something written in early english and rewrite in current language use. Then take a modern work (e.g. internet chat with emoticons) and rewrite in old english.

Customization of Content The following are our group’s three examples of learning activities adapted for the following context: (Choose 1): Individual learning context Large class size context

Customization for Context: Large Class Learning Activity Template 1: Web quest Make ONE search engine to find information on the economic impact of west nile virus. Save the search engine and search words you used. Post your findings.

Customization for Context: Large Learning Activity Template 2: Problem Solving Members of the class take on persona for debate of west nile virus precautions and then have debate (round-robin). Some class members can be note-takers of the events environmentalist, medical doctor, politician, private citizen, chemical company employee

Customization for Context: Large Class Learning Activity Template 2: Cognitive Apprenticeship Build a resource document using materials from earlier activities: E.g.: Take websites found in exercise 1, and categorize into themes.
