The Essence of Web 2.0 The Evolution of Social Networks  The need to network  Online Communities  Blogs, MySpace, LinkedIn  The need to collaborate  Portals & File Sharing  Wikis, Social Bookmarks  The need to innovate  Intersections of diverse ideas  YouTube Message Boards/Listservs Communities of Practice eKnowledge Networks The Future ?

Our goal included both internal work and the work of our awesome volunteer community! The Overall Goal – Create a seamless environment for collaborative work – Work 2.0! wired.asaecenter.org Internal SharePoint Access collaborate.asaecenter.org External SharePoint Access asaecenter.org ASAE/Center Website

Create workspaces with a standard toolset – This ensures some level of consistency and strategy around how the organization does its work! Major Focus # 1 – Collaborative Workspaces, both internally and externally  Collaboration – Team/Project Focused Shared Workspaces  Internal Projects & “communities”  External Communities  Internal/External Shared work groups Staff Others Members Discussions Calendars Project/Task Management Document Libraries Announcements Team Bios

Major Focus # 2 – Making all knowledge available to everyone  With SharePoint as the base, connect all of our knowledge resources so that staff can be more effective as “knowledge workers” Knowledge Center Resources Education Session Materials Strategic and Industry Research Member Services Questions & Answers Website Resources

Shift the focus of work and work materials to a more open, accessible, environment. Everyone has at least “read” access to all workspaces. Major Focus # 3 – Silo Busting – Elevate the ownership of work back to the organization level  There are no department sites in our implementation (at least not yet ). All sites are project or team based. Work belongs to the organization, not individuals or departments.

What’s Next – Possibly “My Site” for every member  Using the CMS in SharePoint 07 as the driver of our website  All content will then be in one environment  Search will then search all known knowledge – Education session materials, web site content, project related materials, etc.  HOW SWEET IS THAT!!  Possible implementation of “MY Site” for members  Hopefully foster more networking without us being a bottleneck  Foster an environment where being a member gives you access to more intimate learning and sharing experience than the website does

The American Institute of Architects is the voice of the architectural profession and the resource for its members in service to society. The American Institute of Architects is the voice of the architectural profession and the resource for its members in service to society. The American Institute of Architects  Raising member expectations  Our members have told us that they would like a premiere resource for information about architecture and the profession that would also serve as a tool that they would use to help clients make the right decisions. They are looking for a site where they can find knowledge and information they can readily apply to practice

The American Institute of Architects is the voice of the architectural profession and the resource for its members in service to society.
