Sources of pollutants Human beings - Domestic waste - Industrial waste - Agricultural waste

Sources of pollutants Sewage without treatment - lack of treatment facilities - lack of infrastructure Insufficient control - Illegal connections of waste water pipes

Effects of this pollution i)Economic loss Fish productivity reduce. Large amount of money is needed to reduce the damage on the environment.

Effects of this pollution ii) Ecosystem disruption Many habitats of aquatic life are damaged and disturbed. Not only organisms living in the polluted habitats, but also the whole ecosystem would be affected.

Effects of this pollution iii) Health impacts Tiny organism and heavy metal in the polluted water may cause diseases Some toxic substances enter the food and affect our health.

Methods to solve this problem Sewage treatment is on of the best way to deal with this problem. It includes: - Sedimentation - Decomposition - Fermentation Photo of simple water treatment

200 sewage plants have been set up to treat different types of waste: - Domestic - Commercial - Industrial Methods to solve this problem Opening of Ngong Ping Sewage Treatment Plant

Our suggestions to the HKSAR Fix up the water pipes and build up a proper network. Have regular pipe-check up to prevent any leakage. Set up law to prevent illegal connection of water pipes.

Our suggestions to the HKSAR Enhance the awareness of the public Do not dump any oil, grease, antifreeze, pesticides, fertilizers, paints, cleaners, and other toxic household products down the drain. Cause great biological threat to marine life.
