Landforms and Bodies of Water

A landform is a kind of land with a special shape.

There are many different types of landforms.

Hill Land that rises above the land around it

Plain Land that is mostly flat

Mountain The highest kind of land

Valley Low land between hills or mountains, often with a river or stream flowing through it

Island A landform with water all around it.

Peninsula A landform that has water on only three sides

Bodies of Water

Ocean A very large body of salty water

River A stream of water that flows across the land

Lake A body of water that has land all around it

Gulf A large body of ocean water that is partly surrounded by land
