AttendanceAttendance 90% Rule 90% Rule Texas Compulsory Attendance law requires that students must be in attendance 90% of the school year in order to receive credit for that year. An absence can be all day or partial day. Tardies can be considered for this state law and also for truancy. If you have a scheduled appointment for something other than illness, it is important that your child attend school for the other part of the school day. CommunicationCommunication 2 nd Graders will be provided with a school planner. Please check and sign your child’s planner daily. Your child will be recording their weekly spelling words here. We will also be using binders for other communication. Please check it daily for weekly newsletter, important papers, graded papers and homework.

BehaviorsBehaviors Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD will be using CHAMPS for our behavior management piece in the classroom. This program will give specific expectations to students. Students will have consequences based on HOW I ACT. Please refer to Student code of Conduct for any questions on consequences that can be issued. 2 nd grade tallies will be renew daily.

School-wide behavior expectations HOW I ACT H=Hullabaloo: I will stay on task in class. O=Outside: I will have appropriate behavior outside of the classroom. W=Work: I will complete assignments on time. I=Inside Voice: I used my inside voice appropriately. A=Attitude: I will be respectful to classmates and adults. C=Courtesy: I will keep my hands, feet, and objects to self. T=Talking: I will talk only at appropriate times.

9 week Conduct Grading Scale Excellent Satisfactory Needs Improvement 69 or less Unsatisfactory Conduct grades are determined by your student’s choices for the 9 week grading period. Each 9 weeks your child starts with a 100 (E) in Conduct. After the first tally is pulled, two points will be subtracted from their 100 (E). Two points will continue to be subtracted from the conduct grade for the 9 week grading period. For each Golden Tally a student earns one point will be added to their conduct grade. Example: A student pulls 6 tallies in a 9 week grading period. 6 tallies times 2 points per tally equals 12 points subtracted from their 100 (E). This student would earn a conduct grade of an 88 or S. 100 (E) - 12 points = 88 (S)

ConfidentialityConfidentiality Teachers and staff at NES are not permitted to discuss with parents any student who is not their child. This includes any and all discipline issues.

SpellingSpelling  Pattern based & High Frequency Words  Promotes authentic learning, not memorization Spelling Patterns, High Frequency Words, and Dictation  We study several patterns and word families throughout the week. These will be tested on Friday.  We give 80% pattern words on the newsletter that will be tested and there will be 20% additional words that are not given ahead of time that follow the given pattern  There will also be 5 high frequency words given and tested  Dictation sentences count as a separate language arts grade.

GradesGrades Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD has a 9 week grading period. Your child will be receiving progress reports at 3 and 6 week intervals and a report card every 9 weeks. Any assignment that your child has scored less than a 70% may be corrected for a 70%.

HomeworkHomework Reading 15 minutes each night is the key to success!!! This is the determining factor in your child’s success. Your child will need to practice math facts, sight words and spelling words. There may be occasional projects.

VisitorsVisitors All visitors between 7:10-3:30 must sign in at the front office before proceeding to any other part of the building. You will be asked to leave your driver’s license and receive a VISITOR’s Badge. You may pick up your DL when you return your VISITOR’s badge in the office upon departure.

LunchLunch Breakfast is $1.35 Lunch is $2.15 Adult Lunch is $3.00 We have free and reduced lunches available if you qualify. Please return a completed form to the school if you are interested. Everyone must update this form annually.

Does your child(ren) know how to contact YOU if there is an emergency??? Do your children know how to find each other on campus? What grade/class their sibling is in? This information is very helpful to the administration and teachers on campus to help keep your children safe.

Recess Temperature Guidelines There are temperature guidelines that we will follow to ensure student safety. If the heat index is above 100 degrees will not have recess outdoors. If the wind chill is below 40 degrees we will have indoor recess.

Drop Off Procedures All students must be dropped off at the front entrance. All other doors are locked for the safety of the students. If you join your child for breakfast, you must sign in with your DL and receive a Visitor’s badge.

Pick-Up Procedures All walkers will be escorted out of the building and supervised to the cross walk. Bus riders will be escorted to the buses. YMCA will be escorted to the gym. Car riders will be dismissed in the front of the building. If there are ANY changes to your transportation situation, please send a note with your child to school or call the office before 1:45 pm. ANYONE picking up your child MUST be on the approved list that you provide the school. We will check ID. Please make sure your child knows how they are getting home the first day of school.

SpecialsSpecials PE will be everyday!! Please make sure that your child has appropriate foot wear.

Classroom Comfort Since the temperature of our classroom is not always predictable, please allow your child to keep a jacket or sweater at school.

School Supply Drop-off As you see your child’s name show up on the screen, please line up at the door. You may follow your child’s teacher to the classroom and drop off your school supplies. Thank you for coming tonight.
