A solid understanding of the story and prompt creates a convincing text. The analysis demonstrates a general understanding of the effect of literary elements on suspense and ending. Use of appropriate examples supports the position. A superficial understanding of the story and prompt creates an underdeveloped text. The essay attempts to analyze the effect of literary elements on suspense and ending, but it may be simplistic or replaced by summary. Evidence to support the position may be weak or too few examples are used. Did not understand the story and the prompt. Essay does not analyze the effect of literary elements on suspense and ending, and instead is a summary. No evidence to support the position.
