The Yale Student Employment Office Yale Divinity School Orientation Friday, August 23, 2013

Student Employment: What can we do for you? 1.We facilitate the hiring process by linking Yale students with on-campus employers. 2.We assist you in filling out the necessary tax forms and legal paperwork: – Federal W-4 – Connecticut W-4 – Federal I-9

Student Employment: What can we do for you? 3.We help you navigate the employment system, and deal with any problems that come up. 4.We provide records to verify your employment with Yale, if they are needed.

Finding a Job Who is eligible to apply? – All US citizens – International students with F-1 visas (on campus jobs only) – International students with J-1 visas must obtain special permission in order to hold a student job.

Finding a Job Go to yalestudentjobs.org and select Student Job Search.yalestudentjobs.org Select On Campus Jobs. Browse the list of positions, and click on any that interest you. To apply, select Click here to apply for this job, and submit the form that opens.

Finding a Job Have your academic schedule sorted out before applying. Check the list of positions often; apply to as many as possible. Don’t worry: although you may not be hired for your ideal job, there are plenty go around. Pay attention to the specified job requirements.

Taxes and Legal Forms Federal W-4Connecticut W-4Federal I-9

Taxes and Legal Forms – American citizens must bring original ID forms to the student employment office (246 Church Street). – Your position will be terminated if you have not submitted a complete I-9 within five business days of beginning work. – Most international students must bring in a passport along with I-94 and I-20 forms. Completing the I-9

Timesheets and Paychecks Employees working for departments without electronic timesheets will need to submit paper timesheets to their supervisors. For most employees, however, time is submitted through the SEO web site, yalestudentjobs.org.yalestudentjobs.org While classes are in session, students are not allowed to work more than 19 hours per week (40 hours per week during breaks).

Timesheets and Paychecks E-timesheets are due Monday morning at 8:00am. If they are submitted (and approved) on time, paychecks are issued on the following Thursday. You can sign up for direct deposit through the Yale Portal at portal.yale.edu. Select My pay and info and click on the Direct Deposit tab. This is to your benefit! Students with stipends will be paid according to their regular semimonthly schedule.
