Gado-gado is one of Indonesian traditional food. The name comes from Jakarta’s original tribe which is Betawi. It consists of mixed boiled vegetables covered in peanut sauce. It’s a very common food in Indonesia and you can find them everywhere! From restaurants to stalls on the side of the roads, a lot of people buy it to fill their stomach. It’s practical and delicious

Gado-gado is one of the healthiest food out there because it contains mixes of vegetables. For example, the bean sprouts; it contains vitamins such as vitamin B and vitamin E. Then, the tofu and tempe, which are made from soy, contains high content of protein. Especially tempe, other than it contains high content of protein, it also contains vitamins, mineral, fat, and good for digestion. With just one portion of gado-gado, you will definitely be full enough, especially with the addition of potatoes that acts as a carbohydrate in the dish.

For Gado-Gado 50 gr of long beans (slice about 4cm) 50 gr of cabbage (rough cut) 50 gr of bean sprouts 1 tempe (cut into squares) 1 tofu (cut into squares) 1 potato (cut into squares) 1 egg Chips (Kerupuk) 30 gr fried peanuts 250 ml coconut milk 3 red peppers (slice and stir- fry) 1 tablespoon fried shallot ½ tablespoon of garlic ½ tablespoon of brown sugar ½ teaspoon of shrimp paste Or you can also use “pecel” sauce For Peanut Sauce

First, boil all of the vegetables (cabbage, bean sprouts, long beans, and potatoes) until they are cooked., not too long though, so the vegetables will still have a crunchy texture. While boiling the vegetables, you can also boil the eggs.

Fry tofu and tempe on frying pan using oil. Fry until cooked

Fried peanuts, shrimp paste, chili, fried shalot and garlic, all mashed using pestle and mortar. Then, put it to a frying pan with the rest of the ingredients. Fry them until curdle and put seasoning. Use low heat while cooking and always stir it.

Put all of the vegetables and pour the peanut sauce on a plate (with the boiled eggs). You can use some limes and our traditional chips (kerupuk)
