My year as an English assistant in Mallorca… Lucy Dann

My schools Placed at two schools in Santa Maria 6 hours in each school Primary schools: One private One public Worked with 5 teachers

How the classes worked Different classroom dynamics with different teachers. With some my role was to support the teacher and work with particular students to improve their spoken and written English. With others I was able to lead the class with the supervision of a teacher which allowed me more freedom and responsibility.

Art classes in English Owls in a nest with year 6 A ‘Peace Tree’ designed by year 6 for International Peace Day An origami swan that I made with my year 4 class

Art in English Some of my year 6 students making their Father’s Day photo frames. Year 3 students doing work in their art books in the playground in April.

Science in English We followed a textbook designed for teaching science to students whose first language isn’t English. Website for science activities to consolidate what they learnt in the classes. cer-ciclo cer-ciclo

Other activities I also took part in different cultural and extra curricular activities with my schools such as carnivals, a UNICEF fundraising day and festivals…

Advice for assistants.. Ask questions Teach them about your culture and ask about theirs Be confident Say yes! Make the most of your year... ANY QUESTIONS?
