First Briefing HKDSE 2015 Information and Communication Technology School Based Assessment

Mark Distribution in HKDSE  Paper 1 Compulsory part (2 hrs) 55%  Paper 2 Elective part (1.5 hrs) 25%  Paper 3 SBA 20%

SBA  An internal assessment Project title is set by school  Starting from 2015 the objectives and analysis parts are also given as requirements Projects are assessed by school Assessment criteria are stipulated by HKEAA

SBA  A 0-50 mark queue of candidates will be submitted to HKEAA  The marks submitted to HKEAA are moderated by the scores of the whole group in paper 1 (compulsory part) both absolute scores and their differences will be moderated i.e. only the rank order and relative differences of the marks are significant

How do SBA marks affect the final grade  Actual moderated marks count  1 mark in various papers as in overall mark (100%) 1 Compu (written/MC) 0.55% 1 Elective 0.42% 1 SBA 0.40%

HKEAA control  Sample reports of all schools will be further scrutinized by a SBA supervisor Those schools with scores very deviated from the modulated scores will be handled by HKEAA The qualities of the projects must be appropriate

Appeal  Appeal procedure To teacher first If not satisfied, to school’s appeal committee If not satisfied, to HKEAA

Scope ICT Curriculum (Compulsory & Elective) SBA Project

Assessment Criteria (mark allocation)  Design & Implementation 25 marks  Testing & Evaluation 10 marks  Conclusion & Discussion 10 marks  Project Management 5 marks

Assessment Criteria  It is for all modules  The requirements will be Elaborated & explained matched with our elective (developing a program to solve a problem)  Guiding questions and consideration factors will be given to match with the requirements  A marking scheme will be derived from it An outline of the MS will be disclosed

Project Report  For assessment, you have to record, in form of a report, the complete process of producing the product. This process involves the design, implementation, testing and evaluation of the product.  So, keeping log of the process from start is very important. As information sources for the report Sources of reference for acknowledgement in the report

Submission  HKEAA deadlines: Early Feb 2015  School deadlines: To be announced Allow time for marking and administrative work Provide a buffer for students

Submission  How deadlines are treated in TST Can be straight and harsh Can be with reasonable allowance The submission dates will be recorded. Project management marks may be affected. Inferior works can be treated as late submission  Materials to submit A product (the program) and a written report 6 sample reports will be submitted to HKEAA

Some advices  Doing too little/ Doing too much Meet the requirements can mean high mark Time constraint Scale (requirement of each section will be given when appropriate)  Time and expectation management  Working out the SBA project is a spiral process

Some advices  Keep log of the resources/references at start Citation of reference sources (as proofs of authenticity) To be shown in the report  You are responsible for keeping your own works  backup, Backup, BACKUP  Keeping versions of works

Cheating & Plagiarism  Not own works  Serious consequence  Plagiarism Copying others work/ code (e.g. from Internet) Learn > assimilate > use  Not difficult to find out Teachers ’ professionalism HKEAA uses anti-plagiarism software Continuous monitoring by teacher

Ensurance of authenticity  Need to seek approval for drastic changes from the submitted interim works  Student declaration form  Peer surveillance  Doing interviews, presentations and inquiries on skeptical works

Teachers Involvement  Fairness vs. role of a teacher to teach  Keep to a minimum  All products should be students’ own work  Point to resources (tell all if appropriate)  Guidelines will be given along the way for each section to clearly lay down the requirements

SBA Project Title Computerization of the Venue Booking System of SKHTSTSS Candidates are required to set up a computerized system for the school to manage the booking of venues. The system should be able to (i) store the booking information and allow for updating of the information; (ii) keep track of the availability of the venues; (iii) allow users to search for availability of the venues; and (iv) allow users to book a venue.
