Leadership Skills Lunch and Learn Networking and Relationship Building August 2014

Workshop Objectives Participants will: 1.Assess the scope of their networks 2.Develop a plan for building relationships with their networks.

What is our “Network”? Everyone we meet and everyone we know, whether personal friends, acquaintances, store clerks, or even contacts made through social media circles that we haven’t met in person.

Size of average person’s network: Average American: 634 Technology Users: 669 Non-technology users: 506 Source: Pew Research Internet Project: “Social Networking Sites and Our Lives.” more-close-friends/ more-close-friends/

Mindshare “Mindshare” is defined as being at the top of someone’s mind. The less often we interact with people in our networks, the less they think of us and the less mindshare we have with them. Setting 5-10 minutes aside per day to contact people in your network increases your mindshare.

How to build mindshare Set time aside daily to contact people in your network. Choose a quick way to get a message across, e.g. , phone call, card or note. Ensure that your message is relevant, valuable, and meaningful to them.
