COSMOS 4-Week Summer University of California

COSMOS is a 4 week residential program for talented and motivated students. They explore advanced topics in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The curriculum is hands-on and lab intensive. What is COSMOS?

Locations.. UC Davis ~ July 7 – August 3 UC Santa Cruz ~ July 14 – August 10 UC San Diego ~ July 7 – August 3 UC Irvine ~ June 23 – July 20 * Students need to provide their own transportation to and from the university.

What will I learn about? You select a cluster of interest. Each campus is different. This will be the focus of the entire week you are at COSMOS. It should be something you are interested in and would like to learn more about.

Residential.. Students are required to live on the university campus during COSMOS. Living on campus allows students ample opportunities to form lasting friendships. On weekends, students may attend additional recreational field trips.

Application... Each campus can only accommodate 160 students so selection is very competitive. A typical student has a 3.5 or higher GPA. Preference is given to 9 th -11 th graders. Applications must be completed online. Deadline is February 22 nd

Application Continued… Asked to submit the names and of two teachers from math and/or science to complete an online teacher recommendation form. (DON’T Wait until the last minute) You may only apply to one campus. You can choose 3 clusters: 1 st, 2 nd & 3 rd choices.

Fees.. Application fee = $30 Tuition Fee = $2,950 Financial Assistance is available (full and partial scholarships). Qualification is based on free/reduced lunch. If you don’t qualify for free/reduced lunch then financial assistance will be considered on a case by case basis. Everyone should apply for financial assistance. Other information..... You do not earn high school or college credit from attending this adventure. Attending this event does not guarantee you a spot in a UC, but it does look great on your application for colleges and scholarships. This is a non-graded activity. If you are shy, don’t worry! Your dorm supervisors are trained to help break you out of your shell.
