Used To Used to in the past simple  The past simple can be used to express a habit or a state -He played tennis every Sunday when he was a teenager. - they went to near-by school when they were kids.

 Only the past simple can be used for actions that happened once in the past -We used to go Cairo every year, but once, in 1980, we went to Alexandria. -I used to use a pen to write the exam, but once, I used a pencil.

N.B.: used to has no equivalent form in the present. Instead, the present simple is used to express habits and states -I live in new work. -He comes to visit me every weekend -They play football every Friday.

Infinitives They are used to express a purpose (why you are doing something) They answer the question why He came to study. Why did he come? He went to check his mail. Why did he go?

Infinitives are used after adjectives I am pleased to see you I am surprised to see you It is hard to learn French It is important to learn English
