Our Bridge Project! By Abbey and Finlay!

The River Trip!  Sealions and Dolphins class went on a exciting river trip up to Totnes, to gaze at the amazing wildlife around the river. We saw egrits, herons, ducks and rowers rowing up and down the river. All of us had a great time.

we received a letter from the council!  Secondly; our class received a letter from the council, telling us to think of the possibilities of having a bridge over the Dart. All of US WERE PUT INTO TWO GROUPS of eight, one of the groups was the Dartmouth group and the other was kingswear.

We generated our own questionnaire!  Then we created our own questionnaire to ask the public of Dartmouth and Kingswear the questions from the questionnaire.

Our journey to Kingswear and Dartmouth!  Then we left school and went to Kingswear to hand the locals our questionnaire all of us created. We asked people in the post office, the ferrymen, the locals and the passengers in the train station. The next day, all of us went on the ferry to Dartmouth and also asked the public and tourists of Dartmouth the questions from the questionnaire. We found out that the people from Dartmouth thought that having a bridge would be a disadvantage; and the people from Kingswear thought it would be an advantage.

Researching different types of bridges! Then we researched all the different types of bridges, such as suspension and bascule bridges. The bridges we had to research were: The Stari Most bridge; Chapel bridge; Tower bridge; Alcantara bridge; Golden gate bridge; Sydney Harbour bridge and Brooklyn bridge.

Sorting our data !  Then we were put into two groups of eight ; and had to sort out the data we collected from our questionnaires. Both groups had an A 3 piece of paper to tally up the information.

Creating our charts and success criteria!  After sorting our data, we tallied the data up on a piece of paper. To create our charts more quickly we were put into pairs to make our charts.

We went to the higher ferry to see the land scape so we could think how a bridge would look like over the Dart.  Now we’re creating our own models!

We sketched the river backround! AAfter the walk to the higher ferry; we sketched out the landscape around the river and coloured them in. Then we drew our own bridge to stick on our sketches with foam pads.

Planning and making our models!  Then we planned our models for our bridges to make out of school recourses. After planning our models we started to make them them out of different materials.
