Induction to Grid Computing and the National Grid Service

2 Goals The goals of this course are to give: an understanding of the concepts of Grid Computing and e-Research. an orientation to the NGS ( and the Grid Operations Support Centre ( sufficient practical experience to allow use of the National Grid Service in future

Induction to Grid Computing and the National Grid Service 3 Coffee/lunch breaks Grid computing enables people to work together, across organisational and geographical boundaries. It all begins by us talking to each other, to build the human grid.

Induction to Grid Computing and the National Grid Service 4 Invitations Introductions! Please say –name, –where from –level of experience with grids –what are your interests in the NGS Researcher (in what?), system manager, developer, trainer,…? During the course, please feel free to –ask for as much clarification as you need! –contribute from your experience

Induction to Grid Computing and the National Grid Service 5 Overview Todays focus is on: –Concepts of grids and the NGS –NGS resources for computation Tomorrow –Use of NGS resources for data access and management –Look to the future Emerging NGS functionality What organisational information do you need to know to join the NGS?
