13 thought it was astonishing. She kept winning every time and wanted to play again, and again, and again. Overall, I’d have to say that was the best Christmas because I had made a new friend forever in Mrs. Claus. This book is dedicated to my mom, dad brother (Nick), twin sister (Carly), my cousins from Tennessee and to the ones in Highlands Ranch, but mostly to my teacher Mrs.Heissenbuttel.

12 1 One night I slept peacefully in the phenomenal month of December in the exquisite hotel of the BROADMOR. It was very quiet that particular night until I heard a weird noise. Bang! I’d say the sound could have awakened the whole hotel if it had been any louder. The mysterious sound was coming from the vent right outside the door of my room swan feather. We returned it to the officials and won the prize. After we walked home we got in our P.J’s for the evening. That night we played a really fun game called Squeak. We had a deck of cards and delt 13 cards to the left of our pile face up. Next we took three cards from the rest of the deck and flip them over to reveal the numbers. My friend

211 This became a night where my curiosity paid off and I discovered something special. I was extremely curious about the sound and I knew that I would be breaking the rules my parents had set down when we had arrived, but it was worth it. I crept outside my room, and surprisingly there was a giant hole in the vent that ran into the next wall. I ran down the lake we peered over the side of the vehicle and laying there was a paddle boat. We hopped in, pushed it out to the water and right in front of us was the item we had searched for, a

10 3 the hall to get one of the servants, but then I realized that I shouldn’t so I zoomed back as fast as a lion in a race. I was stunned to see that there was now smoke coming out from both sides of the wall. I looked around to see what I could use to fan the smoke before the alarm sounded. I took the daily newspaper from the doorstep of the room in front of map to see where we needed to explore. It turns out that we were assigned to go to the lake. My friend and I were pretty happy about that because we both had seen it before. Then we realized we didn’t have a boat, and we couldn’t get out of the boat unless we had something right to the side of the opening of our ride. When we arrived at

49 me, fanned it quickly and eventually the smoke went away. I peered into the first hole in the wall and broken wires sparked everywhere, surrounded by a gaping big hole. In the other gaping hole was a little rock who was crying. I gently pulled her out of the hole When it became the time of the race my eager friend was about to explode! We traveled to the destination and the wind started to whistle lightly, then harder, and then it stopped. After about 30 minutes it started to snow and that really stunned the workers. We all got loaded and buckled in the sleighs and held onto the horse rains. We lined up behind the starting line and, we were gone. Swoosh! We first looked at the

8 5 and calmed her down. She wore a hat so that looked like a Santa hat. I said, “It’s not Christmas yet. Why are you wearing that hat?” She replied, “I’m Mrs. Claus and I always wear a Santa hat”. We kept chatting on and on about the year and whether or not it would be snowy on Christmas. We got along so well that we decided schedule, we stammered through all the activities and finally found one that we adored, The Race Before Christmas. It sounded like a dream to my special guest because she loved searching for special trinkets. She wanted to sign up as fast as a lighting streak lighting up the sky. I can’t believe she was so eager to sign up for that peculiar subject.

6 7 to spend the rest of the vacation together. We got tired and decided to sneak back into the room without waking anyone up. After we returned to my bed I put her down on a pillow next to mine a she whispered, into my ear. I could barely make out what she was saying but I think she said, “I’m sure we were as quiet as a mouse… no kidding!” At the next morning when we woke up I introduced my new friend to my family, and they adored her. After the meet and greet we decided to make an exquisite chain that would count down the days to Christmas. We made it out of colored paper, markers, crayons, colored pencils, paint and even chalk. Once we started counting down the days until Christmas, my family and I cut the first link on the chain. We finished that project and then looking on the
