What New Employees need to Know Immediately.... Employee parking area Rest room location Breakroom location Who is who First-aid area.

Rules and Special Policies Hours of work, time sheets and schedules Punctuality and attendance Safety rules Lunch period and breaks Paydays Absences. Probationary training periods Vacations, insurance, and other benefits Special customs and rules Procedures unique to your department.

How can I Help New Employees fit in With Co-Workers Introduce them to a few of their co-workers Start them out with people you believe are good role models “Buddy” them up with longtime employees, this can effect the way newcomers feel about their jobs.

What Task can I Teach or Assign That They can do Well? They need a “Win” early! Focus them on one task at a time and give them feedback Find a job based on their past experiences Show them how to do it to your standards Once confidence and success is accomplished on a task move on to more complex tasks.

What can I do to Provide them with Something Positive to Talk About That Evening ? Make it a point to see them at the end of their first day Remember their name! Tell them what they did well Discuss how the first day is rough.

Environment for Retention Performance Feedback – Provide both positive and negative Measurement – day reviews – Document how they are doing Recognition – If they meet the standards and maintain them give them recognition...pay...pat on the back.... Starting an employee out right saves you time, money and improves morale. It’s a WIN / WIN for everyone.
