Welcome And a few thoughts on learning technologies… Bradley C. Wheeler Assoc. VP of Research & Academic Computing and Dean of IT Office of the Vice President for IT & CIO Indiana University Bloomington, Indiana

Forces Shaping the Next Generation 1. Course Management Systems have gone Enterprise 2. Personalized portals become the norm for delivering services 3. University services (library, registrar, etc.) become unbundled via Web Services

Course Management Systems Trends 1.CMS becomes part of the 24x7 mission-critical enterprise system 2.Vendor consolidation and shakeout mean that universities must establish a clear CMS strategy 3.Publishers (textbooks, lab manuals, etc.) are developing materials to plug into leading CMS

CMS Requirements are Growing Library Integration Special Character Sets Math/Languages/Sciences Sophisticated Assessment Streaming Multi-media Direct Manipulation User Interfaces Textbook Integration w/ Publishers Oncourse Ongoing Maintenance IMS/SCORM Self-paced Tutorials Research/Committee Support E-Portfolio How will IU meet these growing requirements for Oncourse in a period of relatively flat resources? Workflow Integration/Leverage w/Enterprise Services Greater Personalization
