Zombies: Does Computed Consciousness Count? Mason Vines GST 400

Is thought computational?  Two part question  Can machines pass the Turing test?  If they do, are they conscious?

Zombies  Lack conscious experience  Behaviorally and physically identical to humans

Zombie World  Moody suggests that zombies on a zombie world will not evolve a mentalistic vocabulary  Flanagan and Polger suggest that zombie world could evolve a mentalistic vocabulary  Dennett argues the entire idea of zombies is ridiculous

Conclusions  Philosophers do not follow their own definition of zombies  Consciousness seems to be defined in terms of humans  By this definition, only humans can be conscious
