Lesson 7.5 Solve Two-Step Equations Essential Question: How do you solve two-step equations?

Before we start… You are buying a drum set that costs $495. The music store lets you make a down payment. You can pay the remaining cost in three equal monthly payments with no interest charged. You make a down payment of $150. How much is each monthly payment?

Solving Two-Step Equations To solve a two-step equation, you’ll use inverse operations to isolate the variable. Continue to remember the golden rule of algebra.

How do I solve a two-step equation? Identify the variable and the constant term Use inverse operations to remove the constant term Use inverse operations to remove the coefficient

Bicycle Repair Your bicycle needed to be fixed. A mechanic charged $40 for each hour of labor, and the new parts cost $35. The total cost of fixing the bicycle was $95. How long did it take the mechanic to fix the bicycle?

Landscaping A landscaper charges $28 per hour for labor and $105 for plants and materials to do a small planting job. If the total cost is $168, how long did the job take?

Amusement Park An amusement park charges $8 for admission and $1.50 per ride. You spend $32. How many rides did you go on?

Column Width You are using a word processor to create a table. The table will be 5 inches wide. The first column of the table will be 3 inches wide, and the remaining 4 columns will have equal widths. How wide should you make each of the 4 columns?

Computers A computer repair store charges you $28 per hour for labor, and you buy anti-spam software for $36. If your total bill is $85, how long did they work on your computer?

Theater Each student ticket to a school musical costs $5, and each adult tickets costs $6. The music department collected $1400 in ticket sales and sold 150 adult tickets. How many student tickets were sold?

Frozen Yogurt You work in a frozen yogurt shop. You sold 145 frozen juice bars and 150 frozen yogurt cones over the weekend. You took in a total of $399 from these sales. You sold each frozen yogurt cone for $1.50. What was the price, in dollars, of one frozen juice bar?

How do you solve two-step equations?
