Alaska is a state of the U.S. (January 3, 1959 becomes the 49th state), located in the northwest corner of the American continent, with its capital in Juneau. It was the last to join the United States, replacing Texas as the largest. It is surrounded by the Arctic and Pacific oceans, shares a border with Canada, and is separated from Russia by the Bering Strait. Alaska means "great land “. Alaska's flag represents, on a blue background, the stars forming the constellation Ursa Major, and in the upper right corner, the North Star.

In Juneau, the capital, and in the southeastern half is oceanic climate. This area is the most humid and warm, while in Alaska in winter with mild temperatures and high rainfall throughout the year. Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, central and southern part of the state is smooth due to the proximity of the sea. The climate of western Alaska is determined by the Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska. In the southwest there is a subarctic oceanic climate in the north is subarctic continental. The climate in interior Alaska is truly extreme. Summers can accommodate up to 30 ° C, while winter temperatures plummet to reach -20 ° C. The historical maximum and minimum temperatures were registered in Alaska within.

According to the projections of the United States Census Bureau, in July 2008, the state of Alaska reached a population of 686,293 people. On religion, is predominantly Christian, with 69%, and the second more important is Protestant, with 47%.

It created the first primary school in 1877, and in 1878 established the first institution of higher education. Later, after many more creations I think the University of Alaska in Alaska has many important libraries, which include the State Library, in Juenau, and Rasmusson Library. It also has many museums. The most important are the Sheldon Jackson in Sitka and Baranof Museum in Kodiak. In Alaska, made numerous music festivals and theater. These festivals promote the representation of stories and traditions, such as the work entitled Cry of the Wild Man.
