GEOGRAPHY

Location, place, human/environment interaction, region, and movement are the five themes of Geography Pangea was the name of the single large landmass that existed 200 million years ago. The movement of the Earth’s huge landmasses is known as continental drift. Approximately 70% of the Earth is water, but only about 2-3% of the Earth is freshwater. Most of the freshwater is located in glaciers and ice. A region’s climate is determined by the movement of air, movement of water and currents, and latitude. Alaska is the northern most state and also the biggest. Texas has the most farms of any state

The Great Lakes were formed by glaciers. The southeastern part of Canada is most heavily populated because of its human continental climate. China and India are the only two countries in the world with over a billion people. World population is growing at a rapid rate due to higher birth rate and lower death rate.

Geography continued:  The United States ranks third in the world in size and population.  The five biggest countries size wise are all in the top five for population.  Shipping in Russia is difficult because of very icy conditions due to the extreme northern location.

Geography continued:  A civil war in Syria forced 2 million+refugees to flee and leave their country.
