Presentation transcript:

Example 1:central aerobic treatment facility for liquid manure

Fact sheet aerobic treatment plant Since 1970's Four locations (Elspeet, Stroe, Ede and Putten) Total capacity: ton / year liquid waste (baby beef-veal calve manure) End product: ton / year Dry matter: 5.5% Organic matter: 2.5% Total N: 0.3% Total P 2 O 5 : 0.7%

Example 2: central incineration plant for poultry manure

Fact sheet incineration plant Name/Location: BMC Moerdijk / DEP, NL Is being started up since this week Total capacity: ton / year (dried poultry manure, 60% DM) 10-year manure delivery contracts with over 600 poultry farms (farmers pay EUR 7.50 / tonne + transport) Products: 36,5 MW electric power fly ash (containing P, K, salts, metals etc.) is being sold (?) as base material for fertilizer production

Process scheme

Lessons learned from the past 1.Successful and sustainable introduction of manure processing can only be realized in absence of options 2.Technologies for manure processing are abundantly available and well documented 3.Sustainable manure processing, focusing on replacement of chemical fertilizers, requires complex combinations of technologies + large scale of operation 4.Centralized manure processing requires long-term contracts on delivery of manure and export of the end product
