Presentation transcript:

Joachim Klein, IABG Quality Manager Applied elements of ISO 9001 for Quality Management (QM)  QM is strictly in support of the project management team / the project co-ordinator  QM is aimed at customer satisfaction, intending to create benefits for DG TREN  QM is business and success orientated towards the benefit of the project team  QM is about the individual players involved in the project, hence personal knowledge and mutual understanding are fundamental requirements  QM has pre-emptive character, while Quality Assurance (QA) is focused on monitoring and evaluating project progress along the outlined timeline  QM is implemented to encourage motivation of all involved people, not to bother them

Joachim Klein, IABG Quality Manager Which principal impacts of QM for our project work can be expected?  ISO 9001 based QM is not an end in itself but a guideline for adequately structuring and organising processes in  QM aims to improve processes, whether already implemented ones or those evolving with project progress  QM in is not aimed at formalising things in the first place but at contributing to practical project work  Quality assurance procedures will include an alert concept, defining corrective actions if non-conformances occur along the critical path of a work package  „Lessons learned“ are an ongoing process throughout the entire project life cycle

Joachim Klein, IABG Quality Manager The implementation of quality procedures in  Quality managing steps will build on the understanding of expectations by the customer and the project team towards a healthy project performance, and will address the interests of external parties (political and working level)  Customer feedback will be sought at an early stage in the project, however it should be accepted as an ongoing process thus reflecting management transparency  Based on detailed agreed work plans and a consolidated management plan (Gantt chart) a check for plausibility, completeness and sound structure will be conducted in order to identify – if needed – additional quality assuring measures matching ISO 9001 requirements  Quality management will define processes that are fine-tuned with project management tasks, are tailored to involved actors and will enable a successful
