Recognizing Cyberbullying Cyberbullying is using electronic means to bully, harass, and otherwise make life miserable for people. It’s using information and communication technologies — cell phones, Webcams, computers, social networking sites, podcasts, any and all Web 2.0 technologies, that is, interactive aspects of blogging, Wikis, texting and IMing — to be cruel and harmful to others. Your child makes up excuses for not going to school – It is common for children to play sick and want to take a day off for school but look for consistency, if this is happening on a regular basis. Your child is often angry, sad, and depressed and withdrawn from family and friends. Our children go through spells where they withdraw from family but if you notice they are also withdrawing from friends pay attention to your child’s behavior. How to Protect Your Child from Cyberbullying  Monitor internet usage and cell phone usage.  Keep the computer in a central location.  Talk to your child about cyberbullying and expectations.  Watch for signs of depression or changes in behavior.

How to Respond DO: Tell an adult Join clubs and groups where you will meet other kids Support someone else who is being bullied DO NOT: Think it's your fault. Fight back or bully a person back. Reply to online bullying
