Specially Designed Instruction NYS Regulation: Section 200.1(vv) Adapting, as appropriate to the needs of an eligible student, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to address the unique needs that result from the student’s disability; and to ensure access of the student to the general curriculum, so that he or she can meet the education standards that apply to all students.

Specially Designed Instruction Table Activity Part I Select a partner to work with at your table. Each pair chooses a scenario to read. Each pair should do the following: Re-read the chosen scenario Identify evidence of Specially Designed Instruction Record pieces of evidence of Specially Designed Instruction; 1 piece of evidence per post-it. Partners will have 5 minutes to complete the activity. Save post it evidence for Part II.

At your tables, have a discussion answering the following question: What informed your decision when identifying Specially Designed Instruction in your scenario?

The Lesson Planning Process  Familiarize yourself with the common core instruction  Identify barriers students might experience related to this lesson due to their disabilities  Embed solutions in the lesson plan to address those barriers to provide full access for the student to the general education curriculum

Planning Activity In partners at your table:  Each pair will select a student  Insert SDI from the classroom SDI summary chart for the selected student in the Special Considerations section.  Discuss with partner where in the lesson SDI is needed.  Insert the SDI in the shaded column next to the corresponding lesson segment
