Presentation transcript:

The Functions of Blood Carries nutrients, water, oxygen and waste products to and from your body cells. Helps regulate temperature and water content. Delivers proteins so cells can repair or be replaced. Helps fight infections.

Notice the shape of red blood cells: they are disk like and carry the O 2 and the CO 2. The hemoglobin gives it a red color and attracts the oxygen. RED BLOOD CELLS - ERYTHROCYTES

White Blood Cells – Leukocytes White blood cells protect the body from germs Attack and destroy germs when they enter the body

White Blood Cells They are different shapes and sizes depending on what they do – they are larger than red blood cells.

Particles in Blood Platelets are blood cells that help stop bleeding by making a blood clot or scab.

They are smaller than red blood cells.

Liquid part of the Blood Plasma is the liquid part of the blood About half of your blood is made of plasma The plasma carries the blood cells throughout the body also the nutrients. Plasma is made in the liver.
