On the Horizon The “Child Nutrition Promotion and School Lunch Protection Act” should be re-introduced in March 2007 to expand “time and place” and ask USDA to redefine FMNVs. The Committee on Nutrition Standards for Foods in Schools of the Institute of Medicine will release recommended national nutrition standards for competitive foods. In winter 2008, USDA should issue updated school meal pattern guidelines reflecting the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
