Enlightenment He retired to a life in the forest He followed a life of meditation He attained enlightenment Tought others the path to enlightenment Taught the First Wheel of Dharma – Sutra of the Four Noble Truths and others – are the principal source of the Hinayana

Teachings Second and third Wheels of Dharma – The Perfection of Wisdom Sutras – the Sutra Discriminating the Intention – The main source of the Mahayana – Mahayana = how to attain enlightenment Hinayana – explains how to attain liberation from suffering
