Management Unit Policies and Rules

Policies Definition – a statement of guiding principles and procedures that serves as a guideline for daily operations Support company’s goals and objectives. They leave room for interpretation.(Flexible) Example: The morning shift starts at 6 AM. However, there may be some flexibility if an employee has a doctors appointment.

Rules Definition – a standard that is set forth to guide behavior or actions Tell employees exactly what to do. They leave NO room for interpretation. Example: Employees shall wear hard hats in all construction areas

Types of Policies Credit policies – rules pertaining to credit. Return policies – establishes the conditions under which items that have been ordered, shipped, or delivered may be returned. Reworking policies – establishes the conditions under which items will be repaired. Delivery policies – “Delivery in 30 minutes, or it’s free.” Safety policies – policies to create a safe environment.

Research Policies 1.Select two companies 2.Search their websites to find their policies for three of the following policies. - credit - returns - safety - delivery - reworking 3. Read the policies and half page reflection on your findings. Compare and contrast your findings in your reflection.
