Compost! Natures recycling system

We can compost anything if it can biodegrade – (rot) We call this ORGANIC WASTE

We need to compost organic waste. If we put it in the rubbish it will go to the landfill.

When organic waste like food or plants starts to break down in the landfill a polluted liquid is produced called LEACHATE.

A landfill isn’t a giant compost bin.

2 main benefits of composting 1.Make nutrient rich soil for the garden 2.Reduce rubbish to landfill

A compost needs: To be open to the soil underneath Have plenty of air flow Have good drainage

Types of compost

To make great compost we need to follow the recipe! Browns + greens + air + water

Carbons “browns” – dry stuff

Nitrogens “greens” – juicy stuff

In a compost DECOMPOSERS bacteria, fungi, insects and worms recycle the organic waste into new soil!

Compost Animals

Lets get composting! Reduce your rubbish Save money Make great soil for your gardens All excellent reasons to compost!
