Physical Characteristics Male Polar Bears weigh 772 to more than 1,433. Sows are 331 to 551. Sows are 6 to 8 feet tall and males are 8 to 10 feet tall. Polar Bears have elongated bodies and and long slender necks. Polar Bears don’t just have pure white fur they have creamy yellow to light brown. It all depends on the season and angle of light. Polar Bear’s hind legs are longer than there forelegs. This makes the large muscular hind end stand higher than it’s shoulders. And large and stocky. And the feet have five toed paws. The Polar Bear’s head is oblong compared to it’s body size. The muzzle is elongated with a Roman-nosed snout broad and black. The Polar Bear has 42 teeth and uses them for catching and aggressive behavior. They have four different kinds of teeth Incisors, Canine, Premolars and molars.

Habitat The main home of the Polar Bear is in the Artic Circle. They can also be found on water or land 50% of the time. They also can be found on pack ice, Costal Islands, Coastliness. They prefer sea ice habitats with leads next to the Continental Coastlines or Islands.

Food The Polar Bear’s main food is Ringed Seal and Bearded Seal. They also eat Harp and Hooded Seal depending on the location. They will eat Beluga Whales, Walruses, Hark Whales and Bowhead Whales and fish. When a Polar Bear tries to catch a seal he stays still by a breathing hole or ledge waiting for a seal to come close. When the seal is in range the Polar Bear bites onto the head or upper body then flips the carcass onto the ice and bites it several more times to make sure it is dead. Then the Polar Bear drags it to it’s den and feasts.

Family Facts The Polar Bear cubs are born in Nov.- Jan. They are born in a den. The first weeks of life the cubs nurse most of the time. The mother and cubs emerge from their den in late March or April. The mother’s litter is usually 2 cubs. The cubs stay close to their mother to be nursed and to stay safe. Mother Polar bears are extremely protective.

Enemies The enemies of the Polar Bear are the Killer Whale, Walrus and hunters. The hunters destroy their homes and them. They kill them because of money from their fur and because it is a sport. The Polar Bear gets away by swimming, camouflage, charging in the snow and by standing on it’s hind limbs with it’s claws out.

Interesting Facts A Polar Bear can kill up to 30,000 or more seal in it’s life time. A Polar Bear doesn’t just roar it hisses. It hisses when bothered and roars when injured. A Polar Bear can swim up to 100 miles without stopping.
