Composition Composition is the careful positioning of objects within a painting. Composition is used to guide our eye around a painting, and when used in the right way, can really enhance the way the painting looks to us!

Paul Cezanne was a French, Post Impressionist Painter, and is still one of the most famous Artists in history. Cezanne is known for using compositiona l tools, such as: Diagonal Line The Pyramid shape

Can you see where Cezanne has used both a diagonal line, and a pyramid within this composition ?

Here is another painting, this time by a different artist. It also uses some of these compositional tools. The next few slides Show where similar Composition has been Used.

Composition isn’t just useful to use correctly in still-life paintings though. It’s also very important in the creation of landscape paintings! You should be able to spot Where Cezanne has used a Pyramid composition within This painting.

And in this one… Is it a pyramid shape or a diagonal line?

In this Painting by Cezanne, the artist has done something a little differently though. Can you explain what It is?
