Health and Safety! Before you begin making your frames it is very important that you understand the safety issues involved.

What is your opinion? Can you think of any dangers involved in this lesson? Discuss your ideas as a class and check if they match the points on the next slides.

Glue Guns! The glue from these glue guns is very hot. You must be very careful at all times! Do not touch the plug attached to the mains! If your glue gun does not work ask an adult for help. Do not attempt to fix it yourself! Keep the glue away from your skin!

Sawing Wood! You must be careful when sawing your piece of wood. Begin sawing lightly to create a groove before sawing properly. Saw forwards and backwards gradually. Use the wood holders and the edge of the table to cut your wood. Keep your fingers away from the saw when cutting your wood. Stand up when sawing.

Moving around the class! Take care when moving around the classroom between activities. Always walk slowly watching out for wires and people sawing. If there is no room on the glue table, complete the extension task in your place.

Points to Note! Glue Guns – These are very hot! Sawing – Keep them away from your hands and use the holders ! Movement around the class – slowly at all times! Follow these safety points at all times during the lesson!

Remember... Be safe at all times. Enjoy the lesson!

The Next Stages You are now ready to begin measuring your piece of wood as a class! You need a 30cm ruler and a pencil! Be accurate!

Measurements Measure two 10 cm pieces of wood carefully using your ruler. Measure two 15 cm pieces of wood carefully using your ruler.

Cutting Good, now you are ready to begin cutting your piece of wood. You must take it in turns with your partner! Guide each other through the process! Begin by gently sawing forwards and backwards with your piece of wood supported by the bench edge!

What Next? Once you have cut your piece of wood you are ready to begin gluing your frame together! One group will be chosen at a time to glue in Mrs Lomax’s room. The rest of you must continue with the prototype design and the instructions task whilst waiting!

Prototype Design This is very important. It is the design of your buggy once this frame has been completed. Label your design stating the materials you need for the body of your buggy! Make sure you use labels! Engine powered By electricity Made from card. Made from cardboard circles

Discussion Point Have the learning objectives been achieved? What skills have you developed? Are there any areas you would improve next time?

Packing Away This is a very important part of the lesson. One person collect the saws. One person collect the bench edges. One person collect the rulers. Place your frame in your files with the work completed today. Tidy your table ready for French!
